          Alex Boyé returns to St. George for Family Roots Expo

          The last time Alex Boyé performed in St. George he lost his voice.

          “I’ve never had that experience before,” Boyé says.

          5. I’ve been sick, but I’ve always been able to sing.

          He was here for two nights of back-to-back performances at Desert Hills High School. The first night went off without a hitch but the next morning he woke up without a voice.

          After doing all he could to regain his health for the second evening’s performance, there was still a strong rasp to his normally silky smooth vocals.

          What might have ruined the show for some singers only proved to highlight Boyé’s innate ability to entertain.

          He told stories, walked out into the crowd while singing and even brought quite a few audience members on stage to collaborate with him.

          “It was actually one of the best experiences I’ve had performing,” he says. “I think it was because it didn’t come easy.”
